Los tiburones en muchas partes del mundo son explotados como especie objetivo y en algunos casos como pesca incidental. Mxico actualmente cuenta con 100 especies de tiburn de las cuales 40 son capturadas comercialmente (Applegate et al. 1979). Destacando en aguas mexicanas dos especies, "Prionace glauca" y "Carcharhinus falciformis". El litoral de Colima aporta el 14.4% de la produccin de tiburn, y cuenta con uno de los principales puertos del Pacfico Mexicano; el puerto de Manzanillo en donde existe una flota palangrera de mediana altura dirigida a la pesca de tiburones. Por lo que a partir de las capturas de esta flota se logro obtener aspectos reproductivos de estas especies, registrando un total nueve especies de tiburn, de las cuales "C. falciformis" (88.12%) sostiene esta pesquera y en segundo lugar se registra a "P. glauca" (8.21%).
