Candida glabrata es una levadura haploide no dimrfica filogenticamente ms cercana a Saccharomyces cerevisiae que a Candida albicans. Parte del xito de C. glabrata para sobrevivir en el hospedero, puede deberse a la habilidad para evadir eficientemente las Especies Reactivas de Oxgeno (ERO) producidas por las clulas fagocticas. C. glabrata posee solo una catalasa (CTA1), la cual se induce dentro de los macrfagos del hospedero y le permite resistir a altas concentraciones de perxido de hidrgeno (H2O2), 1000 mM in vitro. En contraste, S. cerevisiae posee dos isoenzimas de catalasa, una peroxisomal (Cta1p) y otra citoslica (Ctt1p) que son reguladas diferencialmente, sin embargo, no es tan resistente a H2O2 como Candida glabrata. Estos datos sugieren que la respuesta al estrs oxidativo juega un papel importante para la sobrevivencia de este patgeno en el hospedero. Para determinar como se regula la catalasa de C. glabrata construimos dos fusiones con GFP: una traduccional PCgCTA1CTA1::GFP y otra transcripcional PCTA1::GFP. Complementamos mutantes de S. cerevisiae con CgCtaI y finalmente realizamos mutaciones puntuales en los motivos de importacin al peroxisoma.
