En los aos 1977 a 1985 se llev a cabo un estudio en Rusia que pretenda obtener aceros austenticos y austenitoferrticos de baja densidad y libres de nquel, donde el elemento estabilizador de austenita, el Nquel, fue reemplazado por manganeso, y la reduccin de peso se logr aadiendo aluminio. Estos son los denominados aceros Fermanal. En este libro se presenta el estudio realizado sobre estos materiales y que conciernen con tribologa y corrosin; debido a que una de las aplicaciones potenciales de las aleaciones FeMnAl como sustituta de la aleacin FeNiCr es en los impulsores de bombas, generando una aproximacin hacia el estudio de la corrosin de superficies metlicas cuando son expuestas a lquidos a alta velocidad que transportan partculas duras, condicin muy proclive en servicio para mltiples dispositivos de propulsin de fluidos.
