Sergio Augusto Romero Servin aborda la caracterizacin ptica lineal y no lineal de tercer orden de una serie de colorantes orgnicos. Se abordan las consideraciones tericas de las ecuaciones de Maxwell y se discuten dos tipos de respuestas pticas, la de tipo dipolar y la de tipo octopolar y sus implicaciones. En la caracterizacin lineal se estudia el ndice de refraccin y el coeficiente de absorcin para los colorantes orgnicos en vas de la longitud ptima para lograr la generacin del tercer armnico ptico. En lo que respecta a la caracterizacin no lineal de tercer orden se emplea el mtodo de Maker Fringes obteniendo una curva de dispersin para la susceptibilidad dielctrica de tercer orden.
