Die Marktfhrer MTV und VIVA prsentieren sich lngst nicht mehr als reine Abspielstationen fr Musikclips, sondern als Distribuenten eines jugendorientierten Vollprogramms. Zugespitzt hat sich diese Entwicklung auch, aufgrund der bernahme von Viva durch den MTVEigner Viacom, im Sommer 2004. Mit der Auflsung der Konkurrenzsituation wurde eine strategische Neuausrichtung der einstigen Rivalen auf den Weg gebracht. Das sichtbare Ergebnis ist die Lancierung eines komplementren Senderprofils, durch eine auf alters und geschlechtsbedingte Interessenssphren zugeschnittene Programmstruktur. Einhergehend mit dieser Entwicklung wurde die Anzahl und Vielfalt der gesendeten Musikvideos deutlich reduziert. Dieses Fachbuch untersucht die Ursachen und Auswirkungen der Strukturwandelerscheinungen im deutschen Musikfernsehen. Anhand von Experteninterviews, Programmanalysen und aktuellen Fachartikeln wird dabei die, in akademischen Betrachtungen bislang fehlende, zugleich aber um so dringendere, Verknpfung von medientechnologischen Entwicklungen und neuen Formen des Musikvideokonsums hergestellt. Das Buch lenkt den Blick hinter das Fernsehbild, das immer nur die sichtbare Oberflche einer hochgradig rationalisierten Unternehmenskultur zeigen kann.
