Los ros de la llanura pampeana tienen una estrecha relacin con las actividades humanas que all se desarrollan, por ello surge la necesidad de conocer el comportamiento y caractersticas del ro Sauce Chico. El presente es un trabajo de tesis doctoral. El ro Sauce Chico nace en el Sistema orogrfico de Ventania, Argentina y desagua en el estuario de la baha Blanca. El rea es agrcolaganadera y hortcola. El objetivo es estudiar la hidrografa de este ro, analizar las manifestaciones de degradacin y los problemas generados a partir del manejo y uso del recurso hdrico a fin de promover el desarrollo sustentable de la cuenca. Los resultados mostraron una cuenca con reactivacin erosiva. Se evidenciaron aspectos del cambio climtico. Se reflej el predominio del proceso de infiltracin. El rgimen del ro se clasific como simple de alimentacin pluvial continental. Se identificaron reas de anegamiento, erosin hdrica e inundaciones. Los cambios en la vegetacin y en los usos del suelo se asociaron a las condiciones climticas, topogrficas y edficas. Se evidenci una disociacin entre los objetivos polticos y la necesidad real de los productores.
