But this should be required reading for anyone who has ever or who ever wishes to actually run a game for other thinking human beings. Campaign design, adventure design, and plot hooks have certainly been discussed ad nauseam in many an article before, but I dont remember any advice being as basically sound nor as solid as Robins. In Dragon Magazine, I have the pleasure of illustrating his The Plays The Thing column. Im just glad I now get to enjoy his thoughtprovoking insight and erudition without having to stare down a deadline at the same time. If ever any university taught Game Mastering 101, this would be the textbook for the course, and Robin would be tenured many times over.

I enjoyed reading Robins' Laws, but I felt some sections were a bit repetitive. There are definitely solid tips for new GMs, though, so I think it has its value. Just wish it had more varied examples throughout.

Essential for Game Masters!
As a new game master, I found Robins' Laws of Good Game Mastering to be incredibly helpful. The advice is straightforward and really helps with pacing and managing the table. Not worth the hype
I was really looking forward to this book, but honestly, it didn't live up to my expectations. Some of the advice feels outdated, and I struggled to find helpful insights for my campaign. Maybe it's better for total beginners, but it left me wanting more.
