Religion verliert fr Jugendliche an Verbindlichkeit und Selbstverstndlichkeit. Jugendliche zweifeln an der Religion, da ihnen der praktische Bezug fehlt. Religion wird verstrkt in Hinblick auf ihre Funktion fr den Einzelnen betrachtet. Deshalb tauchen Fragen auf, wie z.B. Was bringt Religion? Was ntzt es mir?" Durch die Pluralisierung der Welt, die hohe Individualisierung, die unzhligen freien Wahlmglichkeiten und Entscheidungsfreiheiten und das unberschaubare Angebot, werden andere Werte und Normen fr Jugendliche wichtig. Es geht um Bedrfnisbefriedigung, nicht um Pflichten. Befragt man Jugendliche, was ihnen heilig" ist, kann man Antworten wie mein Handy, mein Zimmer, meine Privatsphre oder Freiheiten" erwarten. Der Begriff heilig" wird somit nur im Zusammenhang mit Privatem gesehen. Aber auch die Vernderung der Kindheit, die Auflsung der Familienstrukturen und das berwiegen der Klein und Kleinstfamilien spielen eine bedeutende Rolle. Kinder werden durch ihre Eltern und/oder die Groeltern geprgt. Ihre ersten Erfahrungen religiser Art machen die Kinder in der Regel durch Geschichten und Erzhlungen. Auch die Bibel ist ein Geschichtenbuch. Da aber die Tradition des Geschichtenerzhlens in unserer mediengeprgten Welt verloren geht, kommt es zu einem Ausfall religiser Kommunikation. Wie kann man nun Jugendliche mit Religion erreichen? Treml (1997) fhrt aus, dass es Wege hierfr gibt. Man drfe nur nicht glauben, dass diese Wege einfacher sind als die katechetisch orientierten Vermittlungen von gestern.
