Eine moderne Gesellschaft die durch die mediale Logik bestimmt und deren Strukturen (Organisationsformen, rechtliche Verfasstheit und konomische Ausrichtung) durchzogen ist, neige, so Befrworter der Inszenierungsthese, zur Theatralisierung aller sozialer Systeme. Der Wandel hin zu einer Mediengesellschaft und dessen Auswirkungen auf das politische System sind unverkennbar. Eine nivellierende Ausrichtung hin zu einer kurzfristigen Medienresonanz auf Kosten eines sorgfltigen Arbeitens in den Parlamenten ist mit Bedauern systembergreifend festzustellen, egal ob in einer parlamentarischen oder prsidentiellen Demokratie, in einem Zwei oder Mehrparteiensystem oder in Systemen mit einem Mehrheits oder Verhltniswahlrecht. Vor allem aus legitimatorischen Grnden sind besonders politische Akteure darauf angewiesen, ihre Politik mit der ffentlichkeit abzustimmen bzw. politische Vorstellungen und deren Umsetzung an die Bevlkerung zu kommunizieren. In einer Mediendemokratie ist es deshalb nicht verwunderlich, dass Spitzenakteure von Parteien intentionale Telepolitik betreiben, um so ihre Whlerschaft zu erreichen. Im Zuge einer konomisierung der Gesellschaft und nachlassender parteipolitischer Bindungen setzen politische Spitzenakteure vermehrt auf Techniken des politischen Marketings. Die Imagekonstruktion und pflege parteipolitischer Spitzenmnner ist dabei nur eines von vielen Instrumenten, welches im modernen politischen System Einzug gehalten hat.
