Product DescriptionDescribes the features and options in a student newspaper, the planning needed to organize it, and the methods of producing it. Includes a style sheet and glossary. From School Library JournalGrade 48Running a School Newspaper will probably not have youngsters running to check it out. There is no new or noteworthy information presented here, no innovative ideas or suggestions. However, Dubrovin does present information in an organized, readable fashion which may motivate some students and/or teachers to produce or improve a school newspaper. The sample style sheet contains the rules of writing which newspapers use. Unfortunately, the eyecatching cover is more attractive than the limited number of blackandwhite illustrations and charts found inside. Dubrovin occasionally generalizes: "A newspaper that is sold for even a few pennies is regarded more highly than one that is free," and is occasionally condescending: "If you tell the truth, try not to hurt anyone, and listen to the advice of your teachers and sponsors, you will be able to publish a fine newspaper." Although mastheads are discussed, there is no sample of one. Libraries holding Lyman's The School Newspaper: How It Works, How to Write for It (Watts, 1973) will not want this book.
