Zu ihrem Unternehmen stie Karl Mllenhoff, Professor fr deutsche Literatur und Altertumskunde an der Universitt Kiel, hinzu, der dann auch die Sammlung der Volksdichtung der Herzogtmer Schleswig, Holstein und Lauenburg, die mehrere hundert Sagen, Mrchen und Lieder enthlt, vollendete. Mllenhoff leitet den Band mit einem detaillierten berblick ber die Geschichte und Typologie der Volksdichtung in Deutschland von ihren Anfngen in der Vlkerwanderungszeit bis ins Hochmittelalter ein. Nachdruck der Originalausgabe aus dem Jahr 1845.
