Sagwitch, a leader of the Northwestern Shoshone, grew up as European Americans began arriving in his homeland. When conflict erupted in the Bear River Massacre, Sagwitch and a band of desperate survivors decided to join the people who occupied their homeland, and were baptized as Mormons. This history traces the founding of the Washakie Indian colony in northern Utah, and the legacy of community and religious activism among Sagwitch's descendents. Includes b&w historical photos. Author credentials are not stated. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
