Ce roman est rest indit jusqu' ce jour. Franois Weyergans y dcouvre en direct les plaisirs du jeu avec les obsessions tenaces, les fantasmes, les peurs et la libido effrne du premier en date de ses narrateurs. Tous les lments de son uvre future sont dj prsents dans ce texte fondateur au ton si singulier, alliant, sur un rythme irrsistible, rage et allgresse, rotisme et dsarroi. Auteur de nombreux courts mtrages, il a tourn son premier long mtrage, Aline, d'aprs un roman de Ramuz, et s'apprte mettre en scne l'opra de Wagner, Tristan et Iseut. Il publiera Le Pitre, qu'on a longtemps tenu pour son premier roman, quatre ans plus tard, en 1973.
