Es gibt im Physikunterricht einen klassischen Demonstrations versuch zur Darstellung einer wichtigen Eigenschaft des Lichts. Ein schmaler Lichtstrahl von einer Lampe oder einem Projektor fallt in ein mit Rauch geftilltes glasernes GefaB. Wir k6nnen den Strahl sehen, da die Rauchpartikeln einen Teil des Lichts nach allen Seiten reflektieren oder streuen. Auf dem Boden des GefaBes befindet sich eine glanzende, reflektierende Oberflache, z. B. ein Glasspiegel. Wenn nun der Lichtstrahl auf den Spiegel trifft und reflektiert wird, bildet sich deutlich im Rauch ein V mit dem Scheitelpunkt auf dem Spiegel. Sogar ohne genaue Messung k6nnen wir mit ttnseren eigenen Augen sehen, daB es eine ganz ein fache Beziehung geben muB zwischen dem Winkel, unter dem der Strahl auf den Spiegel auftrifft und dem Winkel, unter dem er den Spiegel wieder verlaGt. Eine senkrecht zum Spiegel gezeichnete (oder gedachte) Linie in der Spitze des V wird die Normale genannt. Wenn wir nun die zwei Schenkel des V in Beziehung zu der Normalen betrachten, wird deutlich, daB der Winkel zwischen dem auftreffenden Strahl und der Normalen gleich dem Winkel zwischen der Normalen und dem reflektierenden Strahl ist. Es wiirde jetzt keine Schwierigkeit bereiten, sich an das Gesetz Einfallswinkel gleich Ausfallswinkel zu erinnern, und, waren wir mit Euklids Geometrie vertraut, mathe matische Beziehungen zwischen Lichtstrahlen und Oberflachen verschiedener Gestalt auf Grund dieser Gesetze abzuleiten. Aber es besteht ein groBer Unterschied zwischen auswendig gelernten Gesetzen und dem V, das wir mit eigenen Augen sehen k6nnen.
