This is a modern (1991) two volume facsimile reproduction of the six volumes issued from 17871803. Each of these two volumes has 3 of the original volumes. In addition, Donald A Low wrote a new, 26 page, introduction to this set. Includes an index of the songs written by Robert Burns. James Johnson collected six hundred Scots songs, including over two hundred written by the poet, Robert Burns. The music is suitable for piano, as well as other traditional instruments. In the publication, Johnson retained the original simplicity of the ancient national Scottish airs unencumbered with useless accompaniments and graces depriving the hearers of the sweet simplicity of their native melodies. There are also Appendices in this edition, which largely comment on the history or source of the 1) Burn's notes on Scottish Songs, which he wrote in a friend's copy of the first 4 volumes.
