Using spray cans, brushes, stencils, xerox machines, collage, computers, video and film to create an intense mix of raw/slick, humour/horror, cute/cruel imagery, this is a visual equivalent of contemporary music and its complexity.Scrawl: Dirty Graphics and Strange Characters was the first survey of this phenomenon. The tradition of graffiti, with its notions of youthful rebellion, outsider identity, urban tribalism, aesthetic and technical innovation, was the starting point. The street, the rejuvenation of comicbook artistry and the style, the rhythms of hiphop and beatbased music, is its inspiration. Since then, this processled visual revolution has spread to become truly international. Scrawl Too showcases work worldwide and looks at the different schools that are establishing their own dynamic creative identity.
