The author, a descendant of the Chiricahua Apaches, reveals the strife and triumphs of his ancestors, who in 1886 were banned from their homeland and imprisoned in Florida. After their arrival, his greatgrandparents were separated from the bulk of the survivors and sold to Cuba as slaves. Years later, their descendants migrated to Florida, settling near the Everglades, home of the Seminole Indians. With their encouragement, the author set out on a crosscountry odyssey in search of his native bloodline. His journey ended when he found a group of Chiricahuas and his long lost relatives living amongst the Mescalero Apaches of New Mexico. Welcomed and accepted, the author was inaugurated into the Medicine Circle as a singer for their Crown Dancers, whose members descended from the great warriorsCochise, Victorio, Chihuahua, Chatto and Geronimo. Their faces, statements, and stories along with those of the Florida Seminoles are in this book.
