This is a selection from Penelope Shuttles six books of poetry, all of which have been published by Oxford University Press, beginning with The Orchard Upstairs in 1980. The selection was made by the author herself, showing her passionate awareness of the many wayssacred and profane,comic, sensuous, and joyfulin which we sustain ourselves through poetry.

While I appreciate the effort in 'Selected Poems 1980-1996', not every poem resonated with me. A couple were a bit too abstract for my taste. However, there are definitely some gems in there! Just be prepared for a mix of styles.

Great Poems but Lacked Some Favorites
The anthology has some great pieces, but I was hoping for a few more from my favorite poets. Still, it's a solid collection that gives a good taste of the era. The quality of the printing was good too, no issues there!
