Los detectores de gases y vapores con sensitividad y sensibilidad altas y selectividad apropiada, representan un rea continua de investigacin para aplicaciones de control de procesos y control ambiental. Muchos dispositivos comunes usados para estos fines no poseen las especificaciones que cumplan con requerimientos legales y de estandarizacin actual; algunos sistemas son muy caros y/o voluminosos para aplicaciones en el campo.
