From 1824 to 1843 Newman was an active clergyman of the Church of England, entering the pulpit about 1,270 times during that period. Newman published 217 of the sermons which he wrote during those years; a further 246 sermons survive in manuscript form in the Archives of Birmingham Oratory--some only as fragments but the majority as full texts. This is the first of a projected five-volume edition of Newmans previously unpublished sermons. The texts have been transcribed accurately and clearly for ease of reading, with sufficient editorial comment to clarify their theological content and historical background.

I bought this collection of sermons by John Henry Newman for my theology course, and it’s been a fantastic resource. The content is deep and insightful, capturing the essence of his teachings from 1824 to 1843. It arrived in new condition, so I couldn’t be happier!

Great Historical Insight
These sermons provide a great insight into Newman’s thoughts during early 19th century. I found the text engaging, though some passages are a bit dense. The book was in new condition as promised, which is always a plus!

Not What I Expected

Solid Read, but Delivery Was Slow
