Throughout the past decade, environmental mediation has demonstrated success in resolving controversial environmental and resource issues. First attempted in the early 1970s, it began as an experiment to see if a relatively straightforward process, involving the assistance of a mediator in negotiations between parties in a dispute, could be an alternative, or a supplement, to litigation. The six case studies described in Settling Things, and the dozens of other environmental disputes that have been resolved through mediation, indicate the process does produce results. This book documents six disputes settled through mediation.

I was hoping for more engaging content from 'Settling Things'. The case studies seemed too academic and didn’t resonate with my experience in the field. It’s not bad, but I was looking for something more practical.
