Traces William Tecumseh Shermans cavalry raids on Atlantas supplies and railways during seven crucial weeks of the Civil War. After initial successes in isolating Atlanta, the author describes how the cavalry found themselves in daring and dangerous engagements, including a failed attempt to liberate Union prisoners at the Andersonville prison camp. Based largely on previously unpublished materials, the book meticulously recreates the day to day life of Union horse soldiers, and fills a gap in Civil War history, since most accounts focus on foot soldiers in the commonwealth of Virginia. The book took longer than expected to arrive, which was a bummer. But once I got it, I was impressed with the depth of research into the Atlanta Campaign. Just wish delivery had been faster. Worth the wait, though!

Informative but Dense
This book dives deep into the operations of the Union cavalry, which is great if you're really into that part of the Civil War. However, the writing can be a bit too technical at times, making it a slower read than I expected. Still, I learned a lot!

Great for History Lovers
I bought this for my dad, and he loved it. The narrative is gripping, but I felt like some parts dragged a bit. Still, it's packed with interesting information about the cavalry's role in the Atlanta Campaign. Not a bad read!
