Im Folgenden wird als Beispiel fr eine solche auf der Feldforschung und der teilnehmenden Beobachtung" basierende Monographie die ethnologische Arbeit Majorie Shostaks ber die Kung San, einem Jger und Sammlervolk der Kalahari Wste beschrieben. Shostaks Arbeit ist ein Beispiel dafr, auf welche Weise ein Forscher eine fremde Kultur beschreiben und darstellen kann. Die Ethnologin verffentlichte ihre Ergebnisse und Beobachtungen, die sie ber die Kung San erhielt in dem 1981 erstmals erschienenen Werk Nisa erzhlt. Das Leben einer Nomadenfrau in Afrika" (engl. Originaltitel: Nisa. The Life and Words of a Kung Woman"), das zu einem Klassiker in der Ethnologie wurde.
