On August 7, 1942, Allied forces landed on Guadalcanal with the aim of relieving pressure that the Japanese were putting upon Allied supply and communication routes. It was the first major offensive by Allied forces against the Empire of Japan.George and his regiment landed on Guadalcanal just one day after the invasion had begun and were thrown quickly into the action to secure the beachhead and defend Lunga Point. Being a crack shot George records the many hours that he spent hidden in the bush sniping at his enemies if any opportunities arose. What makes this memoir different from others is the fact that George not only uncovers the conflicts that he witnesses and took part in but he also gives extensive information about the tactics that the U.S. military implemented as well as in depth descriptions of all the weapons that they used along with those of their enemies.

I found some parts of the book fascinating, especially the details about the battles. However, a few chapters dragged on longer than necessary. Still worth reading if you’re into WWII history.

A compelling read from start to finish
"Shots Fired in Anger" offers an intense perspective on the Guadalcanal campaign. The author's eye for detail really brings the events to life, making you feel like you're right there alongside the soldiers. Highly engaging for anyone interested in military history!

A true soldier's perspective
I loved how "Shots Fired in Anger" gives you a soldier's eye view of Guadalcanal. The description of the battles and the emotional toll on the men is gripping. It’s a tough read at times, but very enlightening!

Not what I expected from a war book
While the title intrigued me, I was a little disappointed. The focus on the minutiae sometimes lost the big picture of the war. It felt more like a diary than a narrative history. Okay read, but not my favorite.

Great insights and personal stories
This book really brings the Guadalcanal campaign to life! The personal anecdotes and firsthand accounts are super powerful. I appreciated the way the author described the conditions and struggles faced by the troops. A must for history buffs!
