In August 1999, after lengthy discussions followed by digging, building, planting and paving, Museumplein was finally reopened. The Amsterdam photographer Siebe Swart recorded the excavation and construction activities from various vantage points. The metamorphosis of Museumplein is documented in more than twenty large format and panorama photos. In many photographs, thanks to Swart's use of digital manipulation, it is possible to follow the complete transformation of the square (and some of the buildings around it) over the course of time. Two introductions and a column provide the reader with background information about Museumplein and Swart's approach to photography. This book, which presents Museumplein in all its manifestations of recent years, offers a picture of changes on and around the square.
