In Deutschland werden durch Bebauung tglich im Schnitt 106 ha pro Tag neu versiegelt. Die Enqute Kommission der Bundesregierung Schutz der Menschen und der Umwelt hat das Ziel formuliert, den Flchenverbrauch bis 2020 auf 30 ha pro Tag zu reduzieren. Das Leitbild der Nachhaltigkeit wird seit den 1990er Jahren in EU und Bundesrecht umgesetzt. Whrend Wirtschaftsfrderung und Umweltschutz bereits mit digitalen rumlichen Datenwerken arbeiten, existieren bundesweit wenige Bestrebungen, auch Siedlungsflchen mit diesen technischen Mitteln nachhaltig zu bewirtschaften. Ausgehend von den vorhandenen Anstzen der lokalen Flchenmanagements in der Metropolregion Hamburg wird die Einfhrung einer zeitgemen Siedlungsflchenbewirtschaftung konzeptionell aufgearbeitet. Modellprojekte in anderen Regionen und Gemeinden stellen den konzeptionellen Orientierungsrahmen dar. Der Autor gibt einen berblick ber geeignete regionalplanerische Anstze, um die Einfhrung eines integrierten Siedlungsflchenmanagements unter dem Einsatz offener und einheitlicher GIS Standards zu ermglichen.
