With the advent of microprocessors of enormous processing power and powerful software, digitization is turning out to be a valuable tool in a measurement system, making the conventional instruments obsolete, due to their lower performance and longer learning curve. The content of this book comes as a whiff of fresh air and provides an insight into digitization technique in ultrasonic instrumentation, implemented in a pulseecho technique, generating ultrasonic waves in the range 1 to 10 MHz. An inhouse designed digitizer module, using a low cost and slower analogtodigital converter is found to be effective in acquisition of signals using synchronous digital delay under software control, developed in C at the backend. Displaying results using suitable control panel has been developed in Visual Basic. The presented work articulates novel digitization technique in the design of cost effective digitization of signals in the measurement of ultrasonic attenuation and velocity of propagation in liquids. The authors expect this work will inspire and motivate young researchers, students and professionals who intend to pursue digital signal processing in their research.
