En Argentina, el modelo neoliberal produjo profundas transformaciones en el mundo laboral. stas se evidenciaron a travs del cambio en la organizacin del trabajo, el debilitamiento de los derechos sociales, el descrdito de la organizacin de los trabajadores y el aumento del desempleo con la consecuente exclusin social. El empobrecimiento se agudiz con la crisis poltica y econmica de los aos 20012002. Los jvenes, de sectores medios y pobres, fueron quienes sufrieron el mayor riesgo de exclusin por diversas cuestiones, entre ellas, la creciente incapacidad del mercado de trabajo para absorber a personas con escasas calificaciones y de garantizar la cobertura de prestaciones sociales, tradicionalmente ligadas al desempeo de empleos estables. Simultneamente, en un plano simblico, se instituyeron nuevas significaciones, las cuales legitimaron los cambios en las condiciones y relaciones laborales. Este libro surge de una investigacin aplicada que muestra la relacin que establecen los jvenes urbanos y rurales de la provincia de San Juan, Argentina, con el mundo laboral. Se aborda esta temtica a partir de la nocin de representaciones sociales.
