Ein Blick auf sein Gesamtwerk lsst erkennen, dass Kleist ein umfangreiches Repertoire von Motiven, Stilmitteln und Metaphern verwendet, von denen zahlreiche stets nicht nur in einem Werk zu finden sind. Elemente wie katastrophale, existentielle Zusammenstrze, metaphorische Sndenflle und Geburten, auerordentliche Zuflle oder das Spiel mit dem Spannungsverhltnis zwischen alten' und neuen' Ordnungen ziehen sich wie rote Fden durch das gesamte Oeuvre Kleists und tauchen in seinen Schriften immer wieder auf. Ohne die gngigen Themen der KohlhaasForschung aus den Augen zu verlieren, wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit versucht, die Novelle ber den selbsternannten Rcher auf einige wichtige Kleistsche Grundmotive hin zu durchleuchten. Untersucht wird der 'Michael Kohlhaas' vor allem im Hinblick auf die von Kleist bevorzugten Motive des Sndenfalls, des Zufalls, der Geburt und der Katastrophe. Ein besonderes Augenmerk soll auerdem auf den Gegensatz zwischen einer alten' und einer neuen' Ordnung gelegt werden, der ja ebenfalls eine Rolle in anderen KleistWerken spielt. Dazu wird zunchst ein kurzer berblick ber die genannten Motive und ihr Auftauchen in Kleists Werk gegeben werden, wobei dies natrlich nur beispielhaft und unvollstndig erfolgen kann. Im Anschluss wird die Erzhlung vom Michael Kohlhaas im Detail auf die einzelnen oben benannten Motive untersucht werden, um eine Aussage darber treffen zu knnen, inwieweit diese Kleisttypischen Motive auch in dieser Novelle eine Rolle spielen, und in welchem Umfang sie interagieren.
