Recientemente se han desarrollado nuevas estrategias para la sntesis de compuestos orgnicos. Entre ellas se encuentra el mecanismo de sustitucin radicalaria nucleoflica unimolecular (SRN1). Ms recientemente la sustitucin aromtica homoltica (SAH) ha incrementado las posibilidades sintticas. En este libro describiremos nuevas sntesis de heterociclos, que son en la mayora compuestos utilizados en qumica medicinal. Por otro lado, se describirn someramente los mecanismos de SRN1 y SAH. Se presentar la sntesis de heterociclos siguiendo una secuencia en tndem de reaccin de SRN1 intermolecular seguido de un cierre de anillo, tales como anillos de indoles, benzofuranos, benzofenantridinas, isoquinolonas, etc., donde el tamao del anillo es desde 5 hasta 9 miembros. Asimismo, se indicar la sntesis de heterociclos por reacciones intramoleculares por el mecanismo de SRN1. En este caso, los nuclefilos participantes son aniones de amidas, oxazolinas, sulfuros, fenoles, cetonas y aminas. Finalmente, se mostrar la sntesis de heterociclos por reacciones de ciclacin 5exo y 6exo seguidas de reduccin o por una reaccin de SRN1, como as tambin otros ejemplos.
