Se desarroll el Programa de Seleccin de Sondas: PSS, un programa capaz de disear parcial o totalmente microarreglos especficos con el fin de identificar organismos que sean muy semejantes entre ellos. Se eligi como modelo biolgico el virus de papiloma humano (HPV) dada su implicacin en el desarrollo de cncer y la alta semejanza entre sus diferentes tipos y subtipos. Se seleccion el lenguaje Perl por su orientacin al manejo de datos biolgicos y por su gran potencial en minera de datos. La entrada de este programa es una huella genmica. Las que se usan en este trabajo fueron generadas utilizando un simulador de hibridaciones en microarreglos pero cualquier tabla de resultado de microarreglo (in vitro o in silico) puede utilizarse como alimentacin. Se utilizaron ms de 100 tipos virales de HPV para disear y probar el PSS. Utilizando el PSS se seleccionaron las sondas ptimas para un microarreglo especfico para HPV. Obtuvimos 200 sondas especficas para los virus de alto riesgo y 139 sondas para los virus de bajo riesgo. Tambin se seleccionaron sondas especficas para algunos tipos virales como HPV16 (30 sondas), HPV18 (40 sondas), HPV31 (35 sondas), HPV35 (36 sondas)
