Review One of the best comedy / adventure comics in print, filled with amusing characters, great visual imagination and involving stories. Time Product Description The situation is grave at the Dungeonnow that the eye of Biscara, that observed all the comings and goings in the dungeon, is gone and the Big Dragon, who guarded the treasure, has diedand the master of the Dungeon recruits Herbert and friends for a perilous mission to find a replacement eye and a new fire breatherforhire in Cochonville, a breeding ground for dragons. From the Publisher In the spirit of Shrek, La Mazmorra is fantasy that also lampoons the genre's conventionsand it's fitfully funny. Lewis Trondheim entered the world of comics in 1990, when he and five fellow cartoonists founded L'Association, a publishing company which would go on to publish some of the most cutting edge European comics of the decade. A prolific and esteemed artist, Trondheim divides his time primarily between two ongoing series the comedic fantasyadventure Lapinot (known in the U.S. as McConey) and the swordandsorcery romp Donjon (La Mazmorra in Spanish), with Joann Sfar. Trondheims other work includes children's albums, unique oneshots, and new work for L'Association. He has ventured into autobiography with the graphic novel Approximativement (a.k.a. The Nimrod #1), and his booklength silent strip La Mouche (The Fly) has been adapted into a series of five minute animated cartoons. Joann Sfar began his career in 1994 with Les Aventures d'Ossour Hyrsidoux. Several albums followed in the collection Patte de Mouche. In 1996, he created Petrus Barbygere with Pierre Dubois for Delcourt. For the same publisher, Sfar wrote scenarios for Les Potamoks and Troll with JoseLuis Munuera and O.G. Boiscommun and the international hit, Donjon (La Mazmorra in Spanish) with Louis Trondheim. Joann Sfar populates his stories with droll characters, such as in La Fille du Professeur, a comic about the love between a mummy and a professors daughter.. This album which Sfar created with artist Guibert, won the Rene Goscinny Prize. Sfars most recent work includes the new comics series Le Chat du Rabbin which he created in 2002.
