This second edition of Sound and Sentiment is an ethnographic study of sound as a cultural system, that is, a system of symbols, among the Kaluli people of Papua New Guinea. Steven Feld is Director of the Center for Intercultural Studies in Folklore and Ethnomusicology at the University of Texas at Austin, and a jazz musician
