Die mangelnde Finanzierbarkeit des Sozialstaates bedroht vor allem eines die sozialen Leistungen. Mit Problemen wie steigende Arbeitslosigkeit und Armut haben sich viele der zentralen Vorraussetzungen fr die Sozialpolitik gendert. Auf die soziale Arbeit kommt daher ein steigender Legitimationsdruck zu. Zum einen muss sie mglichst schnell zeigen, dass sie auf die mehr oder weniger neuen Problemlagen mit gltigen Handlungskonzepten antworten und adquate Lsungswege aufzeigen kann. Zum anderen muss sie vor allem auf Grund der knappen ffentlichen Kassen beweisen, dass sie effizient und effektiv arbeitet. Die Krise des Wohlfahrtsstaates hat das Interesse an den salutogenen Krften der sozialen Netzwerke und auch der institutionellen Vernetzung in diesem Zusammenhang noch gesteigert. In der heutigen gesellschaftlichen Realitt ist es fr viele Menschen einfach unmglich, sich selber ein stabiles soziales Netzwerk aufzubauen, was zu einer vermehrten Isolation und Anonymitt fhrt. Die soziale Netzwerkarbeit soll hier als Mglichkeit dienen, die Versorgungslcken zu schlieen, die die primren, aber auch die sekundren Netzwerke zunehmend hinterlassen. Ihre Aufgabe ist es, den Menschen zu helfen, ihre sozialen Probleme zu lsen. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe". Diese Arbeit beschftigt sich zunchst mit der Definition sozialer Netzwerke und geht dann kurz auf die Bedeutung sozialer Netzwerke fr die Gesellschaft und fr die Soziale Arbeit ein. Des Weiteren behandelt sie das in diesem Kontext wichtige Konzept der Sozialen Untersttzung.
