Der berwiegende Teil dieser Verfahren basiert auf colorimetrischen Methoden, deren relativ aufwendige Probenvorbereitung fr eine Automatisierung allgemein von Nachteil sind. Nitrat wird dabei zu Nitrit reduziert, das nach Reaktion mit aNaphtylamin und Sulfanilsure einen roten Farbstoff bildet, der photometrisch bestimmt wird [GRASSHOFF 1983]. Einen anderen Weg geht eine von GALLOT et al. 1990 vorgestellte Methode der direkten Nitratbestimmung: Sie bedient sich des Prinzips der spektralen Multikomponentenanalyse, mit der sich die Konzentrationen einzelner Komponenten in einem Stoffgemisch simultan bestimmen lassen. Nach dieser Methode wird das UVAbsorptionsspektrum einer Probe im Wellenlngenbereich zwischen 205 und 250 nm gemessen. Anschlieend wird ber ein multiples Regressionsverfahren versucht, die Nitratkonzentration durch Vergleich mit vorab gemessenen Standardspektren zu bestimmen. Dabei knnen jedoch Interferenzen mit anderen Substanzen auftreten, wenn diese im UVBereich eine hnlich hohe Absorption wie Nitrat aufweisen oder wenn deren Absorptionsverhalten von exogenen Faktoren beeinflut wird.
