Es wird zunchst der Begriff Areallinguistik nher erlutert und daraufhin auf die Entwicklung in diesem Teilgebiet der vergleichenden Sprachwissenschaft eingegangen. Anschlieend folgt ein Kapitel ber den heutigen Sprachbundbegriff. Definitionen werden dargelegt und Sprachbnde vorgestellt, deren Existenz grtenteils nicht mehr bezweifelt werden. Im letzten Abschnitt wird der Donausprachbund intensiv diskutiert. Die Ansichten des tschechischen Areallinguisten Vladimir Skalicka werden prsentiert und es wird versucht die Frage nach der DaseinsBerechtigung dieses Sprachbundes zu beantworten. Die vergleichende Sprachwissenschaft lsst sich in folgende fnf Teilbereiche unterteilen: die historischvergleichende, die kontrastive, die Kontaktlinguistik, die Sprachtypologie und die Areallinguistik. In dieser Arbeit wird ausschlielich der letztgenannte Punkt behandelt. Die Hypothese, auf der die Areallinguistik beruht, besagt, dass sich Sprachen die ursprnglich gar nicht miteinander verwandt oder nur entfernt miteinander verwandt waren durch die geographische Nhe einander annhern knnen. Ziel der Areallinguisten ist es, gemeinsame Merkmale eben jener rumlich benachbarter Sprachen zu erkennen und diese zu Sprachbnden zusammenzufassen.
