Bis dato weigert sich die franzsische Legislative, die UNESCO Carta fr Regional oder Minderheitensprachen (ECRML) zu ratifizieren. Frankreich hat als einziges europisches Land seine Sprachenvielfalt noch nicht offiziell anerkannt. Die Grnde fr die Ablehnung dieser Regionalsprachen sind sicherlich historisch und soziologisch fundiert. Einige Linguisten stellen sogar die These auf, dass das Bretonische von Staatsseite her ausgerottet werden soll. Der Film 'Willkommen bei den Scht'ies', ein franzsischer Film aus dem Jahr 2008, persifliert die tief verwurzelten Vorurteile, die dem Norden vom Rest Frankreichs entgegengebracht werden. Die Komik des Filmes, mit all den buerlichen und proletarischen Stereotypen, kann jedoch den Konflikt, den das Bretonische innerhalb der Nation prsentiert, nicht mindern. Zudem zeigt die Wahl des Topos, da diese Vorurteile auch im geeinten Europa des 21. Jahrhunderts noch immer existent sind. Bretonisch ist eine bedrohte Sprache, sogar vom Sprachtod wird bezglich dieser Sprache gesprochen. Europische, wie auch internationale Institutionen, versuchen bedrohte Sprachen zu schtzen. In Frankreich stellt sich dies als schwierig dar. Die Sprachschtzer der Acadmie Franaise berufen sich auf den 2. Artikel der Verfassung, nach dem Franzsisch die einzige offizielle Landessprache ist.
