Wonderfully wicked....A bracingly sensible guide to living peaceably together.Francine Prose, Elle In this wryly perceptive, historically informed (BookPage) new book, Americas leading expert on civility reminds her Gentle Readers that when the Founding Fathers created a revolution in the name of individual liberty and equality, they also took a stand against hierarchical European etiquette in favor of simplicity over ceremony, and personal dignity over obsequiousness to our rulers.Hailed by George Will as The National Bureau of Standards, Judith Martin, who has made etiquette writing an exercise in wit (Book), recounts here how Americans fashioned this etiquette of egalitarian respecta fascinating story that spans from the misunderstood origins of our table manners to the much overlooked legacy of African slaves to etiquette. 10 illustrations

This book really made me think about how we view American etiquette. Starspangled covers some great points, but I found a few sections a bit repetitive. Still, it’s worth the read for anyone interested in social norms.

Disappointed with the Delivery
I was really looking forward to reading this book, but it arrived with a dented cover. The content itself is clever from Starspangled, but my experience was marred by the condition it arrived in. Just a bummer, really.

Engaging, but Somewhat Outdated
I enjoyed parts of this Miss Manners book, but some of the opinions felt a little old-fashioned. Starspangled’s take on etiquette is amusing, yet I wish it included more contemporary examples. Still, a fun read for those who enjoy classic manners!

A Must-Read for Etiquette Lovers
I picked up 'Manners in Which Miss Manners Defends American Etiquette for a Change' by Starspangled because I'm always looking to brush up on my social skills. The wit and wisdom in this book are refreshing and make etiquette feel accessible. Highly engaging and fun to read!
