This is a book on the process of statebuilding in Myanmar. Myanmar is now under the reform processes undertaken by the new government formed in 2011. The reforms include both political and economic reforms. Politically, Myanmar is heading towards a new political system that will ensure the perception of its framers who want to build an international identity of the state of Myanmar. Economic development is also the focus of the new government. With such changes in the country, there is a need of literature focusing on Myanmar and this book fulfills this need partially. Although the study focuses on the statebuilding process of Myanmar between 1988 and 2010, it actually traces the politics of development in Myanmar since independence in 1948. It is a study of stateled development process of Myanmar in line with the developmental state theory and in comparison with the stateled development of Indonesia under Suharto's regime. This book will help readers including politicians, policy makers, international donors, academics, foreign investors, etc. to understand the process of statebuilding in Myanmar.
