ScienceWritten by two of Russias most eminent and productive scientists in turbulence, oceanography, and atmospheric physics, this twovolume survey is renowned for its clarity as well as its comprehensive treatment. The first volume begins with an outline of laminar and turbulent flow. The remainder of the book treats a variety of aspects of turbulence: its statistical and Lagrangian descriptions, shear flows near surfaces and free turbulence, the behavior of thermally stratified media, and diffusion.Volume Two continues and concludes the presentation. Topics include spectral functions, homogeneous fields, isotropic random fields, isotropic turbulence, selfpreservation hypotheses, spectral energy transfer, the Millionshchikov hypothesis, acceleration fields, equations for higher moments and the closure problem, and turbulence in a compressible fluid. Additional subjects include general concepts of the local structure of turbulence at high Reynolds numbers, the theory of fully developed turbulence, the propagation of electromagnetic and acoustic waves through a turbulent medium, and the twinkling of stars. The book closes with a discussion of the functional formulation of the problem of turbulence, presenting the equations for the characteristic functional and methods for their solution.

I was disappointed when the book arrived with some bent pages. Not ideal for a reference book! But once I got into it, the content is excellent and full of insights on turbulence mechanics, which is why I'm keeping it.

This second volume on turbulence mechanics is a treasure trove of information. The depth of coverage is impressive, and the mathematical explanations are very clear. It’s definitely a must-have for any graduate student in fluid mechanics.

Great resource for advanced study
I found this book incredibly useful for my research on fluid dynamics. The clarity in explaining complex turbulence concepts makes it easier to grasp. Just wish the delivery had been quicker though; it took a while to arrive!

Helpful for my thesis but a bit dry
I needed this for my thesis work, and it has helped a lot with the structural dynamics of turbulence. However, the writing is a bit dry, which makes it hard to stay engaged for long periods. Still, it’s full of valuable content!

Solid but not for beginners
A decent book, but be warned, it’s quite technical. I struggled a bit with some sections as I’m not entirely familiar with turbulence yet. If you’re just starting out, this may not be the best choice.
