Steve the stickleback follows the journey of a three spined stickleback from his normal environment to a shallow stream where he finds a spot to build his nest and watch over his babies. This fascinating little fish can be found from northern Europe to northern Asia as well as north America. Seldom noticed in their normal saltwater habitat they are more likely to be noticed when they come into freshwater streams to mate. There are populations in various lakes that spend their entire lives in fresh water. The fish who inspired this story was caught and later released in a small stream in East Providence, Rhode Island.
