This book does a remarkable job of relating the story of this incredibly poor American League baseball franchise between 1952 and 1953. The Browns franchise was the American League's most successfulyuck, yuckhard luck team. They took pride in the generally apt descriptor, 'First in shoes, first in booze, and last in the American League.' It had a good team for a few years in the 1920s and again in the mid1940s but took only one pennant in its history, between 1902 and 1953. The 1944 Browns were a fun team but they had the misfortune to field their only league winner when the crosstown Cardinals, of the great teams of the era, also won in the National League. They lost to the Cardinals in the 1944 World Series. This book is a must have for fans and historians of baseball alike.
