Awarded prizes from the American Revolution Round Table of New York and other organizations, the respected work answers penetrating questions about what happened and why, and the authors judicious evaluations of participants and their policies make an important contribution to the literature. I had high expectations for Stodderts' take on naval operations, but I found it a bit dry. While it covers the Quasi-War details, the writing didn't grab me. I guess it's more for hardcore enthusiasts than casual readers like me.
