The Story of the Ecossais Lodge of New Orleans is a book written by Gerry L. Prinsen that chronicles the history of the Ecossais Lodge, a Masonic organization based in New Orleans. The book provides a detailed account of the lodge's origins, its founding members, and its role in the development of Freemasonry in the United States. The author explores the lodge's early years, from its establishment in the early 19th century to its growth and expansion throughout the 20th century. He examines the various challenges and obstacles the lodge faced, including political and social upheavals, and how it managed to survive and thrive during these times. The book also delves into the rituals and practices of the Ecossais Lodge, including its unique blend of Scottish and French Masonic traditions. It provides a fascinating insight into the workings of the lodge, its members, and the broader Masonic community in New Orleans.Overall, The Story of the Ecossais Lodge of New Orleans is a comprehensive and engaging account of a significant Masonic organization and its impact on the history of Freemasonry in the United States. It will appeal to anyone interested in the history of Freemasonry, as well as those interested in the cultural and social history of New Orleans. The documents in this volume cover some fifteen years and provide an understanding of Freemasonry in French Louisiana. First come the Regulations, followed by the Special Rules imposed by the lodge Parfaite Union at SaintPierre de la Martinique on its daughterlodge. The New Orleans brethren, desirous of obtaining Constitutions for a Parfaite Loge d'Ecosse, prepared a Projet de Reglement particulier that illuminated their Masonic ideals and in 1756 they sent their Bro. Roussillon to present it to Bordeaux; but Roussillon did not return until 1764, not long before the transfer of New Orleans to Spain, which of course rang the death knell of Freemasonry in Louisiana. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
