Jedem Kind sollte daher whrend der Schulzeit die Mglichkeit gegeben werden, Englisch in Wort und Schrift zu erlernen. Da den weiterfhrenden Schulen oftmals nur fnf Jahre fr die Vermittlung der englischen Sprache zur Verfgung stehen, haben viele Schler ohne einen frhzeitigen Kontakt mit der Fremdsprache, nach dem Schulabschluss keine fundierten Englischkenntnisse erworben. Um dieser Entwicklung entgegenzuwirken, aber auch aus lernpsychologischen Grnden, wurde 2003 der Beginn des Englischunterrichtes in die Grundschule vorverlegt. An dieser Stelle knpft meine Arbeit an, denn zunchst mchte ich die Vorteile eines frhen Fremdsprachenunterrichts erlutern. Im Anschluss daran gehe ich auf den nordrheinwestflischen Kernlehrplan Englisch der Grundschule ein und beleuchte dessen Ziele und Schwerpunkte. Herauszustellen sind hierbei unter anderem die Fertigkeiten, welche die Kinder in den ersten Schuljahren erlernen sollen. Dazu zhlen das Hrverstehen, Sprechen, Lesen, Schreiben und die Sprachmittlung. Alle diese 'skills' werden im Kapitel ber die fnf Fertigkeiten beschrieben, wobei das Hrverstehen aufgrund seiner hohen Bedeutung fr das Storytelling, im Vordergrund steht. Neben diesen wird auch ein Blick auf weitere Kompetenzen wie beispielsweise die Methodenkompetenz oder die interkulturelle Kompetenz geworfen. Der Einblick in den Kernlehrplan soll dem besseren Verstndnis dessen dienen, was der Englischunterricht der Grundschule bewirken soll.
