Die Automobilindustrie steht derzeit vor einem technologischen Umbruch, der Wandel zur elektrischen Mobilitt. Diese Umstrukturierung vom Verbrennungsmotor hin zum elektrischen Antrieb bedeutet fr die Automobilindustrie einen Bedarf an vllig neuen Technologien wie sie in Elektromotoren, Batterien und Brennstoffzellen zu finden sind. Zumeist im Hintergrund bleibt bei dieser Diskussion, dass sich mit einem Wechsel der Automobilhersteller auf alternative Antriebe auch die Nachfrage nach Rohstoffen verndert. Die Nachfrage tendiert zu HighTechRohstoffen mit einem breiten Anwendungsportfolio in alternativen Energietechnologien, welche im Zuge der immer wichtiger werdenden Steigerung der Energieeffizienz extrem hohe Wachstumspotenziale in sich tragen. Es ist daher davon auszugehen, dass neben den bisher bedeutenden Rohstoffen der Automobilindustrie wie den Stahlveredlern Nickel, Chrom, Mangan neue strategische Metalle hinzukommen werden. Um jedoch umfassende Manahmen zur Sicherung der Rohstoffversorgung umsetzen zu knnen, wurden die Risiken von Rohstoffabhngigkeiten bisher nicht ausreichend untersucht. Der Automobilhersteller Toyota bildete in dieser unsicheren Situation bereits eine erste strategische Allianz mit dem Bergbauunternehmen Orocobre, um sich den Rohstoff Lithium zu sichern. Diese Studie widmet sich daher der strategischen Rohstoffplanung aus Sicht der Automobilindustrie.
