Seit 1972 ist er Dozent, seit 1980 ordentlicher Professor an der Rechtswissenschaftlichen Fakultt der Universitt Wien; Mitherausgeber u.a. der Zeitschrift fr Neuere Rechtsgeschichte. Arbeitsgebiete: Verfassungsgeschichte (insbesondere sterreichische Verfassungsgeschichte, 8. Aufl. 2001), Privatrechtsgeschichte, Familienrecht und Verfassungsrecht. Er ist Wissenschaftlicher Leiter des Ludwig BoltzmannInstituts fr vergleichende Rechtssystemforschung in Wien.
