Los sueos son textos satricos, escritos entre 1606 y 1621. La obra fue recogida en un solo volumen por primera vez en 1627. Se trata de narraciones de inspiracin lucianesca en que se ironiza sobre diversas costumbres, oficios y personajes de la poca. En el Sueo del juicio final, Quevedo hace una stira de las distintas profesiones y estatus sociales. Aparecen juristas, mdicos, carniceros, hidalgos, poetas, astrlogos, y la obra incluso se refiere a los malos practicantes de las distintas religiones, con alusiones a Mahoma, Lutero y Judas. La presente edicin se compone de: Sueo del juicio final, aparecido en 1606; El alguacil endemoniado, aparecido en 1607; Sueo del infierno, aparecido en 1609; El mundo por de dentro, aparecido en 1612; y el Sueo de la muerte, aparecido en 1621. Los tres sueos que encontramos dentro de la amplia obra, el Sueo del juicio final, junto con el Sueo del infierno y Sueo de la muerte, aluden directamente a tres de las postrimeras (Juicio, Infierno, Muerte). El tema general, como ya se ha dicho anteriormente, es la satirizacin de los humanos viciosos. Lo que va cambiando son los diferentes personajes que aparecen. Quevedo es un espritu crtico y satrico, y tambin un moralista, un censor que vive con angustia la decadencia espaola, que le empuja a crear su propio infierno, pero basndose en dos clsicos: Virgilio y Dante.
