Thematisiert wurden die Grnder' der Soziologie Marx, Weber, Durkheim und Simmel in Hinblick auf deren Struktur und Entwicklungsplne sowie ihre je verschiedenen methodischen Vorangehensweisen, welche bis heute fr die soziologische Theorie von groer Bedeutung sind. Im Verlauf des Seminars erwies sich die Studie von Emile Durkheim (18581917) ber den Selbstmord als interessantes Thema fr eine detailliertere Betrachtung, vor allem im Vergleich zur modernen Suizidforschung. Nach einer intensiveren Auseinandersetzung mit der Thematik fiel auf, dass Frauen nur wenig Beachtung, in der wissenschaftlichen Betrachtungsweise finden. Denn Anstze zur Theoriebildung bestehen so gut wie keine, obwohl die elementarsten Vernderungen im suizidalen Geschehen auf das Konto weiblicher Personen gehen' (Rachor 1995, S. 9). Somit erschien dieser Aspekt als besonders reizvoll. Im ersten Kapitel der Arbeit wird versucht den Begriff Suizidalitt' nher zu beschreiben. Dabei wird versucht die Phnomene Selbstmord und Selbstmordversuch zu definieren und gegenberzustellen. Anschlieend wird ein allgemeiner berblick ber Durkheims Studie gegeben und aufbauend darauf genauer auf seine vier Formen des Suizides eingegangen. Des weiteren folgt eine statistische bersicht zum Thema generell, aber auch hinsichtlich der weiblichen Suizidalitt, um im folgenden die sozialen Ursachen zu untersuchen.
