The Shockoe Slip Gang is at it again! In another actionpacked adventure, Sally and Andrew are visiting their Cousin Anne's farm on the edge of Virginia's wild and beautiful Great Dismal Swamp. The siblings plan to camp out with their friend Robin, who lives in the Swamp and who knows the huge wilderness like the back of his hand. Rumors of an enormous ghost in the Swamp have had the area in a turmoil, but only Robin knows what the 'ghost' really is: a beautiful, red gold horse. When the kids hear the Game Warden is organizing a search, they set out to find the creature on their own They paddle deeper and deeper into the Swamp, entranced by what they see animals, birds, huge trees, dark waters ignoring Cousin Anne's orders not to venture so far into a place largely unexplored since George Washington's time. But when they realize they've gone too far to turn back before dark, what was by day a sunlit paradise turns menacing. Stalked by a marauding bear, their adventure becomes even more terrifying. And when a lightning strike starts a wildfire in the Swamp's peat soil, it endangers not only the children but Robin's family and their cabin. Will they be able to outrun the growing blaze, and survive?
